Father's Day

"Axel." Roxas stopped biting his blue ice-cream bar and looked to the spiky haired man.

"Hm?" Axel would reply, doing the same and looking towards Roxas.

Xion who sat at the far left, curiously stopped eating her ice-cream as well to hear what Roxas wanted to say all of a sudden.

The three friends sat at the usual spot where they would meet up after completing missions. They sat above the rest of the world of Twilight Town, right where the setting sun shined the most. They sat at the rim of the clock tower.

"Well," Roxas went on, looking to his feet, then back to Axel. "Today when I performing recon, I heard some kids talking about something...weird..."

"What was that, Roxas?" Xion asked.

"They were talking about this thing called, 'father's day' and, how they wanted to buy a present for their 'dad.' Who were they talking about, Axel?"

Xion and Roxas both were puzzled.

"Um," Axel said, realizing that both Xion and Roxas never had legitimate parents, nor did they know of them.
"A father...is...well, he could be called a dad too! J-Just so you two won't be confused about that..."

"Father and Dad are the same people?" Roxas restated.

"Got it memorized?" Axel asked, tapping a finger against Roxas' unsuspecting head.

"Were we supposed to get Father a gift?" Xion asked, worried that they had forgotten.

"No. Everyone has their own father."

"So that means I have one?" Roxas asked the red headed man excitedly.

"Let me rephrase that- everybody that's not a nobody has a dad."

"No fair," Xion complained. "Wait! Does that mean when you were a Somebody, you had one?"

Axel nodded. "I had one. He's probably still aroun-" he stopped talking before Xion and Roxas would want to know anymore about his life as a Somebody. He shook his head. "The point is, every Somebody has and or had a father."

"Does that mean we did?" Roxas asked, grinning at the thought.

"Ah- No. You two are special Nobodies!" Axel laughed.

"Not that again!" Xion fumed. "We're always
getting left out because we're special!"

"Hey, Xion! We're special," Roxas reminded.

"Special," Xion repeated in a mocking voice.

"Special!"

And on and on it went and wouldn't seem to stop.

"Hey! Let me continue about fathers!" interrupted Axel, who wasn't even done with his explanation and had been oh so rudely interrupted. When the two went silent, he continued after professionally clearing his throat.

"A father is someone the kid usually looks up to. He is a person that tucks his child into bed, the person to fly kites with. A father is usually an older male role model to a child. Dads drive them to different places and overall just loves them. Or, something close enough to that."

"Axel," Roxas said, looking to be in deep thought. "Are you me and Xion's father?"

"Happy Father's Day!" Xion exclaimed in the background when she heard news that Axel had been their father all along.

"What!" Axel laughed hard. "I am NOT your dad!"

"Well why not?" Roxas asked blankly. "We look up to you!"

"We do!" Xion agreed.

"But it doesn't mean-" Axel gasped out, losing his words.

"Axel, you're the dad now," Roxas said officially as he turned back to the sunset.

"Mm-hm," Xion said, turning in the same direction.

"...Guys?" Axel asked, still stunned and scared at how quickly he became a father.

"You have to take care of us!" Xion said seriously.

"Love us- whatever that is!" Roxas continued.

"You better read us a story and tuck us into bed tonight," Xion went on.

"And we'll fly a kite tomorrow," Roxas said.

Axel with the new overwhelming feelings of parenthood, said nothing more, thinking Eh, they'll probably forget tomorrow.

The next day, there came a knock at Axel's door. He had been sleeping at the time, so, with an extreme bed head and barely opened eyes, he opened the door.

There stood Roxas and Xion holding a messily, clearly  homemade cake.

"Happy late father's day!" they both exclaimed in delight.

"Ah?" Axel asked, rubbing his eyes.

Roxas and Xion placed the plate holding the cake on the ground and then ran straight to Axel as if they were little kids reuniting with their father. They hugged him tightly as if to never let go.


And, Axel decided he would hug them back.
